How to Start Speech Therapy Treatment on your children?

You need to conduct a one-on-one in an isolated room with your child. Because the exercises may vary depending on the disorder and age factor. You can-

  1. Talk about different books, play or pictures, their interests and some topics that they are involved in, to stimulate language development. Because when they talk something, they know it will make them confident, they will be confident with their words and vocab. It becomes easier for the mouth to link the words & picture they have setup in their mind.
  2. Practice tough twisters, practice on the sound of alphabets to teach their sound variance when paired with different letters.
  3. After session, provide some assignments and tasks for them so that they could do it on their own, this wont only give them an engagement but would also teach time management, improves researching skills.

How long to you need to do it?

Well, this depends on certain important factors-

  1. What is their age?
  2. Type and severity of the Speech Disorder (Severity = Impact + Urgency)
  3. How frequent treatment sessions are required?
  4. Are there any other medical conditions?
  5. Are there any other treatments of medicines prescribed?

Few disorders start at an early age during childhood and improve with age, while some of them stay into adulthood. Then at a later stage, it requires a long-term treatment.
